The solar PV system is used to convert natural sunlight into solar energy to power lifts, corridor and staircase lightings, and water pumps.
To date, we have installed 8 mega-watt-peak (MWp) of solar PV systems in different precincts, with another 46 MWp of solar PV systems committed across the island. 1.13 MWp of solar PV systems are also being installed on the rooftops of suitable HDB residential blocks at Yuhua.
Solar Panels will be installed for all 29 mid to high rise blocks in HDB Greenprint Pilot Neighbourhood located at Yuhua. (Photo: Blk 233 Jurong East Street 21)
One of the technologies used in lift systems to reduce energy consumption is the EERS. With the EERS, 20% of the energy consumed by lifts can be recovered without affecting the lift operations.
Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting was first implemented in Jurong Town in 2008, as it is energy efficient and suitable for wide-scale implementation. After switching from the previous T8 lighting to LED lighting in common areas such as corridors, staircases, and lift lobbies, we achieved a 50% reduction in energy consumption.
The successful implementation has spurred us to explore a wider implementation of LED lighting for outdoor street lights in Yuhua.
We estimate that by replacing current outdoor street lights to LED lighting, energy consumption can be reduced by about 50%.
We introduced the Green Homes Package to help residents make the switch to a more energy efficient home. In a typical household, air-conditioners, refrigerators, and lightings consume the most amount of energy. Under the GHP, we will work with suppliers from the private sector to provide bundle discounts to residents buying energy efficient appliances.

On 30 November 2013, we collaborated with our vendors and launched the GHP at the Yuhua Community Club. Residents enjoyed discounts on energy efficient appliances.
The exhibition was a mixture of activity, learning, and buzz. There were exciting performances, residents learned tips on saving energy, and participated in fun activities. See pictures from the event below.
