Singapore's public housing model is unlike any other in the world. While HDB has successfully provided 80% of Singaporeans with affordable housing over the last 50 years, I was curious to learn more about the future challenges that HDB faces, and how they aim to tackle them. This led me to embark on a 6-month internship with HDB.

I interned with the Strategic Futures Office, where I built a Text Analytics tool to assist with environmental scans for issues that might impact Singapore's future housing landscape. The internship gave me the opportunity to apply the data analytics skills that I had learnt at NUS on a real-world data set and to write an algorithm to identify sub-trends and sentiments.

With the guidance of my supervisor and colleagues, I was fortunate to have been able to share more about my project at various platforms such as Management Meetings. The internship has been a rewarding and enriching experience. Not only was I able to improve my technical skills, I also learnt so much about the work of HDB through the interactions with my colleagues and other officers. I now see even greater value in the meaningful work that HDB does.
