Phase 1: Temporary Closure of Changi Road and Geylang Serai Road for Hoisting of New Gateway Arch

From Thursday 23 May 2024 to Sunday 26 May 2024, a section of Changi Road and Geylang Serai Road will be temporarily closed to traffic from 1:00am to 5:00am each night, to facilitate the hoisting of the new gateway arch at the junction. The road sections that will be closed are at:

Changi Road, bordering the Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre;
Geylang Serai Road, bordering the Geylang Serai Market and Food Centre; and
Junction of Changi Road/ Geylang Road.

The bus lane along the road sections will remain open until after the last bus service.

2 The new gateway arch that is being constructed is part of rejuvenation efforts at the Geylang Serai Cultural Belt to revitalise and enhance the area for residents and visitors, as well as showcase Geylang Serai’s heritage and cultural identity.

Phase 2: Temporary Road Closure of Changi Road and Geylang Serai Road for Painting of Junction Box and Road

3 Following the hoisting of the gateway arch, the same road sections will be temporarily closed to traffic from Sunday 26 May 2024 to Wednesday 29 May 2024, from 11:00pm to 5:00am each night, for the painting of a junction box as well as painting of the road. The bus lane will remain open until after the last bus service. The affected roads and junction will resume operation from 5:00am on Wednesday, 29 May 2024.

Traffic Diversion and Alternative Routes

4 During the road closures, motorists are advised to use Joo Chiat Road/ Dunman Road/ Haig Road as the alternative route to Geylang Road. To prevent traffic congestion, Joo Chiat Road will be closed to heavy vehicles such as lorries and buses. Heavy vehicle motorists are advised to use Jalan Turi or Dunman Road/ Haig Road instead. Please refer to the layout plan in the Annex for details on the temporary road closures and diversion routes.

5 Barricades and diversion signs will be put up to guide motorists. Motorists are advised to drive carefully and observe the information signs displayed.
