Project SPHERE

Project SPHERE Logo

Project SPHERE is a community programme initiated by HDB, with support from the Ministry of Education and Singapore Pools. ‘SPHERE’ stands for Students, Singapore Pools, and HDB Enriching and Reaching out to the Elderly.

Through Project SPHERE and its spin-off initiative, Friends of SPHERE, schools, students, and volunteers from Singapore Pools play a big part in bringing more cheer to seniors living in rental flats, showing their care, commitment and compassion for others.

Some activities under Project Sphere include spring cleaning of rental flats and bringing seniors out on tours to Punggol Eco Town. Volunteers can also opt to paint gates for these elderly tenants with paints sponsored by Nippon Paint Singapore.

Join Project SPHERE

Through Project SPHERE, students can develop a strong commitment to serve the community and society. If your school is keen to make a difference through Project SPHERE, drop us a note at

The Project SPHERE experience

Volunteers help enhance the living environment of the elderly by spring cleaning their homes or refreshing their gates with a new coat of paint. Through these activities, Project SPHERE aims to:

  • Promote the spirit of volunteerism among youth and foster a mindset of care for seniors
  • Encourage community bonding and facilitate interaction between the youth and seniors through social activities that promote better understanding and the sharing of experiences

Broom It! Day 2019

Broom It! Day 2019 was held on 29 May 2019 with support from Singapore Pools, Nippon Paint Singapore, AMKFSC COMNET @ Punggol, and Edgefield Secondary School.

Project SPHERE

In conjunction with HDB Community Week 2019, HDB organised the fifth run of Broom It! Day, a Project SPHERE event on 29 May 2019. The event was organised in collaboration with COMNET Senior Activity Centre (SAC) at Blk 206A Punggol Place.

The event was graced by our partners and corporate sponsors: Edgefield Secondary School, COMNET AMKFSC Community Services Ltd, Harmony Activity Centre, Evergreen Circle Senior Activity Centre, Harmony Activity Centre, Singapore Pools Pte Ltd, Nippon Paint (Singapore), Prime Supermarket Limited, and Ya Kun International Pte Ltd.

320 students from Edgefield Secondary School as well as staff from Singapore Pools carried out spring cleaning activities at 28 rental flats. In addition, Singapore Pools and our other corporate sponsors: Prime Supermarket Limited and Yakun International Pte Ltd also distributed EASY tables to elderly rental households identified by the SAC.

As part of Broom It! Day 2019, 400 painted photo frames were put together to form a collage, setting a new record under the Singapore Book of Records. This collage signified the collective efforts of students and elderly coming together to build inter-generational ties in the community.
