HDB Calls for Photo Entries in “Celebrating LIFE in the Heartlands” Photography Competition
HDB will launch the “Celebrating LIFE in the Heartlands” photography competition 2016 on 15 Jan 2016. Back for the third time since 2013, the theme for the competition is “Friendly Faces, Lively Places”. Through this nationwide competition, HDB seeks to invite Singaporeans to contribute photos that capture the heart-warming stories of community ties in the HDB heartlands.
Participants are invited to submit photo entries that best portray what life in the heartlands means to them – from snapshots of families, friends and neighbours bonding over activities (“friendly faces”) to interesting depictions of heartland spaces that have left a lasting impression on them (“lively places”).
The “Celebrating LIFE in the Heartlands” photography competition 2016 is open from 15 Jan till 31 Mar 2016. Participants can submit their entries under the “Instagram” and “Open” categories by 31 Mar 2016.
To encourage participation, especially among those used to taking photos on their mobile devices, we have introduced a new Instagram category. Under this Instagram category, participants only need to follow the competition Instagram account, @LIFEPhotoComp, and accept our “Follow” request. Photo entries with captions can be submitted using the hashtag #LIFEPhotoComp2016.
Eligible entries will be reposted onto the competition Instagram account. The reposted entry with the most “likes” will win the “People’s Choice” Award.
For the Open category, participants can submit their photo entries with captions to photoentry@LIFEPhotoComp.sg. The best entries will be shortlisted for judging and uploaded to IDA’s e-Citizens platform for public voting. The entry that receives the most votes will win the “People’s Choice” Award.
The top 14 photo entries (including the entries that win the “People’s Choice” Award) from the Instagram and Open categories stand to win prizes worth up to $500 and $2,500, respectively. All the winning entries will also be exhibited at the HDB Community Week 2016.
The “Celebrating LIFE in the Heartlands” photography competition is organised in conjunction with the HDB Community Week, held annually to strengthen HDB residents’ sense of belonging to their community, and to encourage residents to play a more active role in community-building.
First launched in 2013, the photography competition has attracted participation from both young and old, with ages ranging from three to 86 years. More than 6,000 photo entries from 2,000 participants were received over two competitions held in 2013 and 2014.
