Community Art Project

As part of the  HDB Community Week 2021, HDB invited residents to paint their hopes and aspirations on the future of HDB living through a Community Art Project. Themed "Our HDB, Our Home, Together We Paint Our Future!”, the event brought together more than 3,000 participants across Singapore to paint their visions on totems, canvases and art cards via digital and physical platforms, which were then curated into a digital art installation by artist Sun Yu-li.

Participants’ Hopes and Aspirations

Participants, ranging from 5 years old to 98 years old, were guided to imagine the future of HDB living through 3 sub-themes:

  • People
  • Homes and Neighbourhoods
  • Smart and Sustainable Living

They expressed that they would like to live:

  • In harmony with neighbours in an inclusive environment that embraces people of different abilities and backgrounds
  • In neighbourhoods with more recreational and play spaces that can facilitate active and healthy lifestyles
  • Close to nature, with sustainable practices in our environment

Scroll through to find out about the key ideas and artworks submitted by participants for each sub-theme.

Various art forms were explored in the project, including totems and canvases that were done through digital and traditional painting methods.
