Town & Community Plazas
A communal space for all to enjoy
From 2016, town & community plazas are being built around Singapore. These plazas are envisioned to serve as special places for residents to gather, enjoy activities with friends and neighbours and foster community ties in their towns.
Be it through community arts and cultural activities, or food and music events, every resident can play a part in creating their town’s unique identity and sustain its vibrancy by joining the ongoing events at the plazas.
Each new town or community plaza comes complete with:
- A part-sheltered, part-al-fresco event space
- Food & Beverage outlets
- Power and water points
Enjoy the activities at our new Town or Community Plazas and soak up the atmosphere there! Complement your experience with ‘Our Heartland Trails’ Mobile Application to learn more about the towns.
Let’s Play, a series of fun and exciting events will be organised during this school holidays in November and December 2017. Residents of all ages can indulge in the simple, pure joy of play at the Town Squares and Community Plaza. With activities such as a carousel, bouncy castle, community-led workshops, snack stalls, and movie screenings, there is something for everyone. Check out more details:

Bedok Town Square
Under HDB’s Remaking Our Heartland programme, Bedok Town Centre has been transformed into a vibrant new hub with a major shopping mall, integrated transport interchange, and a new hawker centre.
The new town plaza at Bedok is a cornerstone of the redevelopment of Bedok Town Centre as it connects the various facilities at the Town Centre.
This is the first plaza where a local Activation Team has been formed to actively look into its programming. Some 1,000 Bedok residents have shared their aspirations and hopes for the plaza in the recent community visioning exercise. The most popular activities voted by the residents include outdoor movie screenings, mass yoga classes, and performances. The Bedok community has also collectively voted for the town plaza to be named ‘Bedok Town Square’.

Opening of Bedok Town Square
Bedok Town Square was officially opened on 20 May 2016, in conjunction with the HDB Community Week 2016, where many activities were organised for residents as part of its opening celebration from 20 to 29 May 2016. Check out the highlights of the opening event!
Punggol Town Square
Overlooking the beautiful My Waterway@Punggol, Punggol Town Square is the second new-generation town plaza completed by HDB, after Bedok Town Square. Well integrated with transport facilities such as the Punggol MRT station, and with shopping, dining and other facilities at Waterway Point, the town square is an ideal place for the community to come together to strengthen community ties. Every resident can play a part in creating a unique identity and contribute to Punggol’s vibrancy by joining the activities at the square.
Located in the town square, Punggol Discovery Cube is the first visitor centre within an HDB town. It showcases the evolution and development of Singapore’s first Eco-Town.
This is the second plaza where a local Activation Team has been formed to actively look into its programming. Some 300 Punggol residents have shared their aspirations and hopes for the plaza in the community visioning exercise held in November 2016. Popular suggestions included mass workouts, outdoor concerts, temporary play structures for children, and eco-related craft workshops.
